A large portion of our funding comes from philanthropic sources with significant support from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation.
With grant support and additional resources, we provide three types of investment:
Through the First Capital Fund we provide “genesis” funds to new technology companies at the earliest stages of commercialization in Michigan. It provides up to $250K through quick, flexible financial instruments.
Early to Mid Seed
The First Step Fund is an industry-agnostic fund putting capital to work in emerging high-growth businesses in Michigan. This fund deploys up to $50,000 in initial investments with follow-on capacity of $100,000 for qualifying companies. We partner with institutional funds and angel investors for investment rounds sized between $150,000 and $500,000.
Series Seed and Series A
The Detroit Innovate Fund is an early-stage venture capital fund focused on high-tech Michigan companies in Michigan. Initial investments range from $100,000-$250,000 investments with follow-on capital available. We focus on assisting in the commercialization efforts of new technologies, scaling company sales, and supporting companies that have secured initial market traction.
