What We Do

Strengthening Detroit, Together

Invest Detroit was created to bring partnerships and philanthropic resources together to catalyze growth in Detroit by supporting real estate and business projects that struggle to find traditional financing. With strategic lending and investing, we partner on projects that bring people and resources to the region, while supporting those who have stayed. Knowing that we can accomplish more with partnerships, our work is collaborative, leveraging additional resources and expertise to create greater stability.

Real Estate

Through investment and expertise, our team supports developers on projects that will catalyze growth in the surrounding area. We focus on commercial and multi-use buildings—both preservation and new construction—and work with community residents to identify need and opportunity. With a commitment to inclusivity, we also work to identify and support developers of color and ensure a percentage of affordable housing in mixed-use projects.

SMALL BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIAL

At present, our team primarily supports retail and small business projects in an effort to retain and create jobs for Detroit residents.  In addition to lending, we work with entrepreneurs at all stages – from building business plans and preparing them for financing to coaching and technical assistance after opening.  As our work further expands into neighborhoods, this program is also aligning with our real estate work to ensure new retail spaces are occupied by businesses that address the needs of its residents. We are also exploring industrial strategies that would create large numbers of job opportunities.
